Welcome to South Tipperary Beekeepers Association

As a beginner you are very welcome. Feel free to participate or just sit back and enjoy our meeting.  You don’t necessarily have to own bees to join.

This association is probably one of the most proactive in the country. We are fortunate to have some very experienced beekeepers that are willing to disseminate their vast knowledge they have gained over many years of working with bees. Several members are known within the country and internationally for their expertise. Major achievements within the club are winning several top prizes at the world honey show, internationally proclaimed bee breeder, microscopy expert, several lecturers and honey judges. Not to mention the fact that the president of the FIBKA is a member and we also have the honey queen in our membership list.

Although the craft is based on practical experience the importance of the theoretical knowledge is well recognised within the club. With this in mind we run several courses every year to cater for all levels from a new beginner up to preparing for exam at honey judge level. All members are welcome as are members from other associations who are willing to join as associate members.
If interested in joining our association please fill in application form and send to our treasurer with appropriate fee. Feel free to contact any of the above if you require further information. Meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during Jan – April with demonstrations during May – June.

The following is offered to all our members, especially beginners:

  • Friendly meetings with people that are always willing to help
  • Mentoring service from an experienced beekeeper
  • Lectures on various bee topics
  • Beginners Classes to help you start and sit the preliminary exam
  • Practical demonstrations at our apiaries which is the best way to learn
  • Study group to further your knowledge on the craft
  • Access to video and book library

You can also check out The FIBKA's Beginning With Bees section as it provides some great info for newcomers.
